Why People Don't Lose Weight
We talked about why people become obese; next we’re going to talk about why people don’t lose weight. There‘re various reasons why people struggle with this, you may even have your own reason. But whatever the reason may or may not be, the question is why overweight and obese people don’t shed the weight like they know they should?
I have a few reasons that may give you a better understand of why you may not lose weight, if you have a weight problem.
• Having the right and realistic goals – Before starting any weight loss program, know why you need to lose weight and that your reason(s) is the right reason(s). The biggest motivation killer is to set unrealistic weight loss goals. You didn’t put the weight on overnight, so know that it is going to take time to lose the extra weight that you put on over time. Also know what you hope to achieve from your weight loss program.
• Prepare yourself for a weight loss program - Start your new weight loss program by getting rid of all your junk food! Empty out your refrigerator and all your cupboards. It's time to get rid of the soft drinks, chips, cookies, ice cream, and any other form of junk food permanently. Once you've dumped your junk food make a list of the healthy food that you'll need and purchase as much as your budget will allow you to. Remember to include essentials such as fresh fruit and vegetables, healthy snacks and drinks.
• A lack of regular exercise or physical activity - To ensure long lasting results and to boost your weight loss rate it's highly recommended that you incorporate regular exercise or some form of physical activity in your routine. It is possible to lose weight without exercise, but with it the results are far better and more rewarding. The best form of exercise is to combine cardio with fat burning exercises. However, as everybody is different than the next person, you may do something as simple as extra housework or walk a few minutes a day. The main thing is to get physically active and do extra exercise but don't over do it!
• Reward yourself based on the progress you’ve made - Record your progress and reward yourself anytime a decent milestone has been achieved. Give yourself a well earned pat on the back and reward yourself for making progress on your weight loss program. Splash out and get that new item of clothing or new shoes to reinforce that you're definitely losing weight. But don’t over do it. Remember the finish line is in site, so just because you hit one mile stone, you still have some work to do. Be careful about getting complacent when one goal is achieved. Those who do get complacent may find themselves back at square one. Also be careful of others complimenting you. You know you’re making progress when someone else notices you’re losing weight. But you can also do the same thing by complimenting yourself on hitting a goal in your weight loss program.
• Not eating a healthy breakfast - breakfast is the most important meal of the day so it's very important that you never skip refueling your tank with breakfast. After all it's already been several hours since you had a decent meal last night so your brain kicks on your body’s survival mode. This will ultimately slow your metabolism and cause you to feel lethargic and may even cause you to overeat later to compensate. Eating breakfast
gets your metabolic engine running to help you lose weight.
That is why breakfast is detrimental to the success of your weight loss program. Whatever meal you're eating remember to take smaller portions, including breakfast, and chew your food more and you'll end up feeling just as full.
• Not getting a good night’s sleep - Always get enough sleep during your weight loss program. An average adult requires approximately 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Sleep is important as it enables your bodily processes to deal with wastes and do any other healing which is important to the success of your weight loss program. Sleep replenishes and rejuvenates your body for the next day. Neglecting a good night’s sleep will cause you to be sluggish and less motivated to do the things important to your weight loss program
If you follow these easy tips then you'll start seeing encouraging results in your efforts to lose weight. Be consistent and make them an integral part of your lifestyle. Also to have fun, stay positive, and be creative while going through the entire process and success in your weight loss program is assured. Remember also, you did not put the weight on over night, so it’s only right that the weight will not coming off over night.
